Reconnect on the Ridge: Stay, Learn, & Explore!

Big things are happening at Breath of Dawn!

We’re excited to announce that our educational homestead and farm stay in Lebanon, Virginia, has received funding through the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s (VTC) Microbusiness Marketing Leverage Program (MMLP).

The award will support our project, Reconnect on the Ridge: Stay, Learn, & Explore!, which focuses on increasing awareness of Virginia tourism businesses and experiences and encouraging visitation during shoulder season.

For us, this project represents more than a marketing initiative. It is an opportunity to help change how travelers think about visiting Southwest Virginia and to showcase the many reasons our region deserves a place on their travel plans throughout the year.

Our Mission: Reconnect on the Ridge, All Year Long. We believe the mountains don’t have an off-season.

Our mission through Reconnect on the Ridge: Stay, Learn, & Explore! is to inspire more people to visit Southwest Virginia beyond the traditional peak travel months, discover the beauty of every season, and experience the region’s unique blend of mountain getaways, outdoor adventures, local attractions, and educational farm experiences.

Too often, travel plans revolve around the busiest seasons. But the quieter months offer their own reasons to explore, whether that means enjoying colorful fall scenery, taking in peaceful winter mountain views, welcoming the arrival of spring, or discovering local experiences at a different pace.

We want travelers to see Southwest Virginia not simply as a seasonal destination, but as a place worth returning to throughout the year.

Through this project, we aim to help more visitors discover what makes our region special while encouraging them to stay longer, explore further, and support the local businesses and communities that make Southwest Virginia unique.

Why Off-Season Tourism Matters

Tourism plays an important role in supporting local businesses and communities. However, when visitation concentrates around peak travel periods, businesses can face quieter stretches during the rest of the year.

Encouraging shoulder-season travel creates opportunities to introduce destinations to new audiences, increase visitor spending, and support tourism experiences beyond the busiest months.

Southwest Virginia has so much to offer travelers seeking mountain scenery, outdoor recreation, distinctive local culture, and memorable places to stay. By highlighting these experiences throughout the year, we hope to encourage visitors to look beyond traditional travel calendars and discover something new.

Our vision is straightforward: More visitors discovering Southwest Virginia. More opportunities for local tourism businesses. More reasons to explore our mountains in every season.

Stay, Learn, & Explore at Breath of Dawn

Guests can also discover educational farm experiences and explore nearby attractions, outdoor recreation, and local communities.

We want every visit to be an opportunity to experience more than a place to stay. We want visitors to connect with the region, discover its character, and find reasons to return in another season.

Whether you’re planning an autumn escape, a winter mountain retreat, a spring getaway, or a trip during another quieter period of the year, we hope Breath of Dawn helps you see Southwest Virginia in a new way.
